The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI/M provides centralized network connectivity and Power over Ethernet distribution for professional IP surveillance installations. Featuring 16 Fast Ethernet PoE ports and two Gigabit uplink interfaces, it allows multiple compatible IP cameras to connect to a network video recorder or existing network infrastructure.

Furthermore, its intelligent management capabilities provide additional network monitoring and troubleshooting options compared with conventional unmanaged switches.

16 Fast Ethernet PoE Ports for CCTV Cameras

The switch features 16 × 10/100Mbps PoE ports designed for compatible IP surveillance cameras and other PoE powered devices. These ports transmit network data and electrical power through Ethernet cabling, reducing the need for separate power adapters. Consequently, installers can simplify CCTV cable management while maintaining centralized camera connectivity.

130W Total PoE Power Budget

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI/M supports IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet standards. Each PoE port can supply up to 30W, subject to the switch’s combined 130W power budget. For example, sixteen IP cameras consuming 7W each would require approximately 112W, which is within the available power budget.

However, sixteen cameras drawing 10W each would require 160W and exceed the switch’s capacity. Therefore, installers should calculate the total power requirements before connecting all devices.

Gigabit RJ45 and Combo Uplink Connectivity

The switch includes one dedicated Gigabit RJ45 uplink and one Gigabit combo interface. The Gigabit RJ45 uplink supports connection to compatible routers, NVRs and other network switches.

Meanwhile, the Gigabit combo interface provides flexible copper or fibre connectivity using the appropriate interface and compatible SFP transceiver. A combo interface shares its connection resources, so its copper and SFP options should not be counted as two independent simultaneous uplinks.

Smart Network Management

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI/M supports smart network management through a web interface and compatible Hikvision management platforms. Administrators can monitor connected devices, configure supported network functions and troubleshoot connectivity issues. Additionally, network topology visualization and device monitoring can help simplify surveillance system maintenance.

Intelligent PoE Watchdog

The PoE watchdog feature monitors supported connected IP cameras and can automatically restart their PoE power when they become unresponsive. Consequently, this feature may reduce the need for manual camera power cycling. However, automatic restarting does not guarantee recovery from every network or camera fault.

Up to 300m Long Range PoE Transmission

The switch supports extended PoE transmission of up to 300 metres on ports 1–16 under suitable conditions. This feature provides flexibility when installing cameras farther from the central network cabinet. Nevertheless, transmission distance depends on cable quality, camera compatibility and operating conditions. Extended mode may also reduce available data speeds.

VLAN and Port Isolation

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI/M supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN configuration and port isolation. These features allow administrators to organize network traffic and restrict unnecessary communication between selected ports. As a result, they can improve network organization in multi-camera CCTV installations.

STP and RSTP Loop Prevention

The switch supports Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP). These functions help prevent network loops that could interrupt connectivity or reduce network performance. Furthermore, static link aggregation provides additional configuration flexibility for compatible network connections.

Priority Ports for Important CCTV Traffic

Ports 1–8 support VIP port functionality, allowing their traffic to receive forwarding priority when network bandwidth becomes insufficient. Therefore, installers can prioritize selected surveillance devices where supported.

Cable Detection and Network Troubleshooting

The switch supports cable detection functions that help identify certain network cable faults. Additionally, supported management tools can assist with monitoring port status and diagnosing connectivity problems. Consequently, maintenance teams can troubleshoot surveillance network issues more efficiently.

6kV Surge Protection

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI/M features 6kV surge protection designed to improve resistance to electrical disturbances. However, proper grounding and additional surge protection remain important, especially where Ethernet cables are exposed to outdoor conditions.
