MikroTik hEX PoE RB960PGS 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Router

The MikroTik hEX PoE RB960PGS combines Gigabit routing, SFP connectivity and PoE distribution in a compact desktop router. It is particularly useful for small offices, CCTV installations, wireless networks and remote sites where several compatible network devices need both connectivity and power.

5 Gigabit Ethernet Ports

The hEX PoE provides 5 × 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet ports, giving it full Gigabit wired connectivity.

Ether1 can be used for PoE input, while Ether2–Ether5 support PoE output. This configuration allows the router to act as both the network gateway and a compact power distribution device for compatible equipment.

PoE Output on Four Ports

One of the main advantages of the RB960PGS is its ability to provide PoE output through Ethernet ports 2, 3, 4 and 5.

This can reduce the need for separate PoE injectors when connecting compatible:

• Wireless access points
• Outdoor CPEs
• IP cameras
• MikroTik devices
• VoIP equipment
• Other PoE-powered network devices

Passive PoE and 802.3af/at Support

The type of PoE output available depends on the power supply used with the router.

With lower input voltages, the RB960PGS provides Passive PoE output. When supplied with 48–57V DC, MikroTik specifies that the unit can provide 802.3af/at PoE out.

This is important when planning an installation because the standard included power supply may not provide the voltage required for 802.3af/at output.

SFP Fiber Connectivity

The router includes 1 × SFP cage, providing additional connectivity for compatible SFP modules.

This is useful when connecting the router to:

• Fiber internet links
• Fiber backbone networks
• Managed switches
• Remote network cabinets
• Building-to-building fiber connections

The SFP interface gives the hEX PoE more flexibility than a basic five-port Ethernet router.

800MHz Processor

The RB960PGS is powered by a QCA9557 processor running at 800MHz and includes 128MB RAM.

This hardware is designed for small wired networks and RouterOS-based routing applications.

RouterOS

The hEX PoE runs MikroTik RouterOS and includes a Level 4 license.

RouterOS provides extensive network configuration capabilities, including routing, firewalling, DHCP, VLANs, bandwidth management, VPN functionality and network monitoring.

This gives administrators significantly more control than a basic unmanaged router or PoE switch.

USB 2.0 Port

The RB960PGS also includes 1 × USB Type-A 2.0 port.

The USB interface provides additional expansion options for supported RouterOS applications and compatible USB devices.

PoE Input

In addition to providing PoE output, the hEX PoE itself can be powered using Passive PoE through Ether1.

It also provides a DC power input, giving installers flexibility when deciding how the router will be powered.

Compact Network Solution

Because routing, switching, SFP connectivity and PoE distribution are combined into one device, the hEX PoE can simplify smaller installations.

This can reduce the number of individual power adapters and PoE injectors required in a small network.
