UGREEN USB 3.0 to SATA Converter-CM257

The UGREEN USB 3.0 to SATA Converter – CM257 is a practical storage adapter for connecting an internal SATA HDD or SSD directly to a computer without installing the drive inside the PC.

It is especially useful for IT technicians, computer repair professionals and users who need to retrieve files from an old drive, clone a disk, migrate data to a new SSD or temporarily use an internal SATA drive as external storage.

USB 3.0 Transfer Speed up to 5Gbps

The CM257 uses a USB-A 3.0 host connection, supporting theoretical data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps. On the drive side, it supports SATA III up to 6Gbps. However, because the USB interface is limited to 5Gbps, actual host transfer performance will be below the SATA III maximum and will also depend on the connected drive and computer.

Supports 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA Drives

A major advantage of the CM257 is support for both:

• SATA I, SATA II and SATA III drives

The UG-60561 version is listed as supporting drives up to 16TB by current retailers.

UASP, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. Support

The CM257 supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) for more efficient communication with compatible storage drives and operating systems. It also supports TRIM and S.M.A.R.T., useful features when working with compatible SSDs and monitoring storage devices.

Ideal for Hard Drive Cloning and Data Recovery

The converter provides direct access to a SATA drive without requiring installation inside a desktop or laptop. Therefore, it is useful for hard drive upgrades, SSD migration, data recovery, backups, drive testing and file transfers.

Power Requirements

For 2.5-inch SATA HDDs and SSDs, power can normally be supplied through the USB connection, so an additional power adapter is not required. However, 3.5-inch SATA drives require an external 12V/2A DC power adapter because USB alone cannot provide sufficient power. The power adapter is generally not included with the CM257/UG-60561.

Integrated USB Cable

The CM257/UG 60561 has an integrated USB 3.0 Type-A cable approximately 50cm long, providing a convenient direct connection to a desktop or laptop.

Technical Specifications

Important Compatibility Note

The CM257 is designed for SATA drives. It is not an M.2 NVMe adapter and should not be purchased for M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Also, if you plan to connect a 3.5-inch desktop HDD, you will need a suitable 12V/2A external power supply. For standard 2.5-inch laptop HDDs and SATA SSDs, USB power is normally sufficient.
